Getting Ready for the next Fishing Season: Spring Kings, Summer Steelhead & Our Favorite—Blueback
2/7/2026
Fishing season is right around the corner, and we’re getting excited for what’s ahead. Every run has its own feel, but this lineup—spring King salmon, summer-run steelhead, halibut, ling cod and blueback (sockeye)—is one we really look forward to each year.
Spring Kings (Chinook) are usually the first sign that the season is officially starting. They’re rich, flavorful, and always in high demand. For us, spring Kings mean early mornings, watching river conditions closely, and easing back into the rhythm of the season.
As summer rolls in, summer-run steelhead take over. These fish are clean-tasting, versatile, and a favorite for a lot of people. Steelhead season brings steady energy and keeps things moving during the warmer months. It’s a good balance between work, family, and being on the water.
And then there’s blueback (sockeye)—hands down our favorite fish. Sockeye season is special. Blueback is a Quinault-given name, inspired by the blue tint these sockeye carry.
It’s the fish we get most excited about every year and the one we’re always happiest to share.
As the seasons approach, we’re grateful for another year on the water and for everyone who supports what we do. We can’t wait to bring you fresh fish, good stories, and especially a great blueback season.
